Bhakti (Devotion) occupies the pride of place in Bharathiya culture. Devotion cannot be confined to observances like worship, pilgrimages or going to temples. These are merely actions indicative of devotion. There is a power that provides a basic impulse for these actions. That is the love of God. Bhakti means Paripurna Prema (total love). This love is motiveless. Love based on a motive cannot be real love. As a river seeks to join the ocean by a natural impulse, as a creeper winds itself naturally around a tree to climb upwards, so too is the devotee's love a spontaneous expression of the yearning to realise God, free from worldly desires of any kind. To experience the presence of the Divine, the devotee's love should flow as a pure selfless stream. It should regard the Divine as One that pervades everything. The devotee should practise seeing God in every object in the cosmos and firmly believe that all names and forms are derived from God.

Bhakti (Pengabdian) menempati tempat terhormat dalam budaya Bharathiya. Pengabdian tidak dapat dibatasi pada suatu pemujaan, ziarah atau pergi ke kuil. Ini hanyalah menunjukkan tindakan pengabdian. Ada kekuatan yang memberikan dorongan dasar untuk tindakan ini, yaitu kasih Tuhan. Bhakti berarti Prema Paripurna (cinta-kasih total). Cinta-kasih yang tidak memiliki motif, karena cinta-kasih yang berdasarkan motif bukanlah cinta-kasih sejati. Seperti sungai, dengan dorongan alami berusaha bergabung dengan laut, seperti angin merambat sendiri secara alami di sekitar pohon untuk memanjat ke atas, demikian pula bhakta dengan penuh kerinduan menyadari Tuhan, bebas dari keinginan duniawi apapun. Untuk mengalami kehadiran Tuhan, cinta bhakta harus mengalir sebagai aliran cinta-kasih tanpa pamrih yang murni. Ia harus menganggap Tuhan sebagai Yang Esa yang meliputi segalanya. Para bhakta harus berlatih melihat Tuhan dalam setiap objek di alam semesta ini dan memiliki keyakinan yang kuat bahwa semua nama dan wujud berasal dari Tuhan.
