Only the years that you have lived with the Lord have to be counted as life, the rest are not worth counting. Know that all this wealth, property and fame are but for a fleeting moment. Develop attachment for the Lord, who will be with you wherever you go.
Seorang kakek yang sudah berumur tujuh puluh tahun ditanya oleh cucunya yang baru berusia tujuh tahun, "Kakek! Berapa umur kakek sekarang?" dan sang kakek menjawab, "Dua tahun!" Sang anak nampak heran dan diliputi oleh keraguan. Sang kakek menjawab, "Saya telah menghabiskan hanya dua tahun terakhir dalam pergaulan dengan Tuhan, sampai kemudian saya terjun ke rawa-rawa dalam mencari kesenangan duniawi." Hanya tahun-tahun kehidupan dengan Tuhan yang dihitung sebagai hidup, sisanya tidak pantas untuk dihitung. Ketahuilah bahwa semua kekayaan, properti, dan ketenaran hanyalah untuk sesaat. Kembangkanlah keterikatan pada Tuhan, yang akan selalu bersamamu kemanapun engkau pergi.
