Thought for the Day - 7th March 2013 (Thursday)

Consider the example of a cinema; on the screen we see rivers in flood, engulfing all the surrounding land. Even though the scene is filled with flood waters the screen does not get wet by even a drop of water. At another time, on the same screen we see volcanoes erupting with flame, but the screen is not burnt. The screen which provides the basis for all these pictures is not affected by any of them. Likewise in the life of man, good or bad, joy or sorrow, birth or death, will be coming and going, but they do not affect the Soul (Atma). In the cinema of life, the screen is the Soul (Atma). It is Shiva, it is Shankara, it is Divinity. When one understands this principle, one will be able to understand, enjoy and find fulfilment in life.

Perhatikan contoh sebuah bioskop; di layar kita melihat banjir melanda seluruh tanah di sekitarnya. Meskipun adegan dipenuhi dengan banjir, layar tidak basah bahkan oleh setetes air-pun. Pada kesempatan lain, pada layar yang sama kita melihat gunung berapi meletus, tetapi layar tidak terbakar. Layar yang menjadi dasar bagi semua gambar tidak terpengaruh oleh salah satu dari hal tersebut. Demikian juga dalam kehidupan manusia, baik atau buruk, kegembiraan atau kesedihan, kelahiran atau kematian, akan datang dan pergi, tetapi hal tersebut tidak mempengaruhi Jiwa (Atma). Di bioskop kehidupan, layar adalah Jiwa (Atma). Itu adalah Shiva, itu adalah Shankara, itu adalah Divinity. Ketika seseorang memahami prinsip ini, seseorang akan mampu memahami, menikmati dan menemukan kepuasan dalam hidup.
